Recommended Animal Sites and Books

Sites

Animal Diversity Web – Database of descriptions, photographs, and classifications of the world’s mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, sharks, bony fish, molluscs, arthropods, and echinoderms, searchable by common or scientific name. Some records also provide information on habitats, physical characteristics, food, reproductive habits, and geographic range.

US Fish and Wildlife Service – Information about animals and the Environment.

Primate Info Net – Good deal of scientific detail for a big list of primates.

Books

Some good macro (closeup) wildlife photography.

A nice big book with a substantial amount of details.

The nature programs from David Attenborough/BBC, like the Planet Earth series, are my favorite. It is hardly believable the way birds dance in the deep forest and the nests they build.

This is another series from David Attenborough. In this one there is an episode about the deep ocean (“The Deep”) which shows sea-life so strange it appears to be science fiction.
